The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released the official syllabus and revised exam pattern for NEET (UG) 2025.
Full Form and Purpose
Exam Pattern
NEET is a pen-and-paper-based examination comprising 200 multiple choice questions, out of
which 180 must be attempted. The questions are distributed across four subjects: Physics,
Chemistry, Botany, and Zoology. Each subject contains two sections – Section A with 35 questions
and Section B with 15 questions (only 10 need to be attempted). Each correct answer awards 4
marks while each incorrect response results in a deduction of 1 mark. The total duration of the exam
is 3 hours and 20 minutes, and the total marks are 720.
Syllabus
The NEET syllabus is primarily based on the NCERT curriculum of Classes 11 and 12. It includes:
– **Physics**: Topics from Mechanics, Electrodynamics, Modern Physics, Thermodynamics, etc.
– **Chemistry**: Physical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Inorganic Chemistry topics from both
classes.
– **Biology**: Structural organization, Cell biology, Plant and Animal physiology, Genetics, Ecology,
Human health and diseases, and Biotechnology.
Eligibility Criteria
To appear for NEET, candidates must meet the following eligibility conditions:
1. Age: Candidates must be at least 17 years old at the time of admission or will complete the age
on or before 31st December of the year of admission.
2. Educational Qualification: Must have passed 10+2 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry,
Biology/Biotechnology, and English as core subjects from a recognized board. General category
candidates must have scored a minimum of 50% marks in PCB (40% for SC/ST/OBC and 45% for
PwD).
3. Number of Attempts: There is no restriction on the number of attempts for NEET.
