NEST 2025 & NISER Admission Guide

The National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), established in 2007 in Jatani, Odisha, is an autonomous institution under the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India. Affiliated with the Homi Bhabha National Institute, NISER offers integrated M.Sc., integrated Ph.D., and Ph.D. programs in basic sciences. The campus spans 300 acres and includes advanced academic and residential facilities.

Programs Offered

5-Year Integrated M.Sc. Program: Specializations in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology.

2-Year M.Sc. in Medical & Radiological Physics: Admission through JAM/JEST, followed by a

written test and/or interview. Includes a 1-year mandatory internship in collaborating hospitals.

Integrated Ph.D. & Ph.D. Programs: Available in various disciplines. Admission requires a valid

score in national-level examinations such as NET, GATE, JEST, etc., followed by an interview.

NEST 2025 Overview

Exam Date: June 22, 2025 (Sunday)

Mode: Computer-Based Test (CBT)

Duration: 3 hours 30 minutes (9:00 AM 12:30 PM)

Sections: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology (20 questions each)

Marking Scheme:

Correct Answer: +3 marks

Incorrect Answer: -1 mark

Unanswered: 0 marks

Merit List Calculation: Best three scores out of four sections considered (maximum of 180 marks).Language: English and Hindi (English version will be considered in case of discrepancies).

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification: Candidates must have passed the Class XII examination or equivalent in

the science stream in 2023 or 2024, or be appearing in 2025.

Minimum Marks:

General/OBC: 60%

SC/ST/Divyangjan: 55%

Age Limit: No age limit for appearing in NEST 2025.

General/OBC (Male): 1,400

SC/ST/Divyangjan and all Female candidates: 700

Payment Mode: Online via credit card, debit card, net banking, or UPI.

NEST 2025 will be conducted in approximately 140 cities across India. Candidates can select up to

three preferred centres during the application process. The final allotment will be mentioned on the

admit card.

Scholarships

All students admitted to the Integrated M.Sc. program at NISER are eligible for the INSPIRE Scholarship by the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India. This includes a monthly stipend and an annual contingency grant to support academic pursuits.
